Dear Darké Abotenou followers,

As you all already know, this project started three years ago and has grown tremendously ever since, Barukh Hashem. Under the devoted guidance of e”H Ribi Mordekhai Lebhar s”t and e”H Ribi ‘Amram Assayag s”t, Darké has grown immensely and has garnered the respect and admiration of Jews around the world, Rabanim included. We currently send daily e-mails containing North African, with a focus on Moroccan, halakhot and minhagim to almost 4,500 people in both French and English. Our newly renovated website attracts about 120 unique hits per day while our YouTube channel – containing everything related to Moroccan piyutim and tefila – has over 100 videos with a total of more than 700,000 views.

This initiative started with the realization that Moroccan Jewry is quickly losing its luster and the holy words of our rabanim of old, zekhutam yagen ‘alenu, are being forgotten. As of 2011 there does not exist even a single sefer in any language but Hebrew on the subject of minhagim, halakhot, and the Rabanim of Morocco. Thus, for those of us living in the galut, our precious customs, piety, and the actions of our fathers are being lost.

I want to take this opportunity to thank all those involved in this massive project. It is thanks to the countless hours and dedication put in that we have achieved so much in so little time.

Now, three years later, we are close to realizing our initial intentions of producing a sefer. Having just celebrated the release of the long awaited sefer, Maghen Abot: Yoré De’a by Ribi Lebhar s”t, we want to continue in the simha and international rejuvenation of the Toradyalna, by bringing to your attention the prospect of an entirely English sefer to be called,Darké Abotenou: The Laws and Customs of North African Jewry, Volume 1.

We are planning to have everything completed and ready for publishing by Summer 2012, B”H. With the completion of the English sefer, we will immediately begin work on the French version. Our vision is to have this sefer in the home of every Moroccan, both traditional and religious, with hopes of showing people the holy sources and reasons for our laws and traditions that many have come to take for granted and even, G-d forbid, neglect.

In order to bring this dream to reality we will need your help. There will be limited pages available for dedications, tax-deductible currently only in Canada, if you are interested please contact us :

Before Rosh HaShana and the Yamim Noraim, please consider this unique and immense project that has the potential to drastically improve Moroccan Jewry worldwide in this generation and in generations to come all while restoring the honour to our Hakhamim and their holy words that they so rightly deserve.

Thank you,

Ariel Picillo s”t and the Darké Abotenou Team
