Laws of Berakhot

Birkat HaMazon

We start the berakha of “Nodé” with the words : ” ‘Al arsenu ve’al nahalat abotenu, nodé lekha…”.

It seems that by using this nusah they wanted to emphasize that even though we are not currently in Eres Yisrael, it is still our land because of the inheritance of our Forefathers. Therefore, we thank Hashem that eventually the whole nation of Yisrael will return to their land, as Hashem would never forsake His nation and His legacy. This is the nusah of the old sidurim, see Yalqut Yosef (Heleq 3, p.330), and the Ben Ish Hai (Huqat, 119).

In the second berakha, the general minhag is to say “anu modim lakh” and not “anahnu modim lakh”, additionally, the minhag is to say ” ‘al tasrikhenu” and not “na ‘al tasrikhenu”. See Kaf HaHayim 187:30.

In the third berakha, the general minhag is to say “boné berahamav binyan Yerushalayim amen.” See Ribi David ‘Obadia zs”l, Nahagu ha’Am (Berakhot).

Immediately after the berakha “Boné yerushalayim”, most say: “Behayenu ubhayé kol qehal bet Yisrael, tibané ‘ir Sion berina, ‘abodat haqodesh birushalayim, ve-armon ‘al mishpato yesheb beqarob kebarishona.” This is printed in all the old Moroccan sidurim and e”H Rbi ‘Amram Assayag s”t attests that this was the minhag in Morocco and of his natal city of Tanger. This is said because once we finish praying for the rebuilding of Yerushalayim it is an opportune time to ask to merit seeing Yerushalayim rebuilt and in all of its glory, and the return of the Shekhina to Sion.
